Handicap Rules

In an effort to ensure that the handicaps of Nelspruit Golf Club members are accurate and a fair reflection of the individual's current form, the following rules will apply:

  • The Club Manager will be the Club Handicapper.
  • Handicaps will be calculated after play on the 15th and on the last day of the month.
  • Members are responsible to enter scores for all rounds of golf played. The only competitions for which scores are not entered are Scramble and Pinehurst competitions or others where the player does not play the entire round on his own.
  • Incorrect scores entered will be penalised and could lead to disciplinary action being taken against the player concerned.
  • Scores must be entered immediately after play. 24 Hours grace will be granted except prior to calculation dates.
  • Away scores must be entered at the club where the round was played. Your handicap card is required for you to do so. Exceptions for this rule will only be clubs who are not on the AST system; a signed score card, with a contact number for the marker, must be produced for these games
  • Scores not entered will result in a penalty score being entered. This score will be equal to the best score currently in the system for the player concerned.
  • Card swipe only will be phased in over the next few weeks. Please collect your AST card from the office.
  • The Handicapper may apply courtesy cuts at any time. A member who is a prize winner twice in a calculation period may receive a courtesy cut, which will be in effect until the following calculation where after he will revert to his official handicap.
  • The AST system is a peer review system that relies on the members to check on each other for honesty. Irregularities should be reported, in writing, to the Handicapper immediately. A panel of Management Committee members will take disciplinary steps where necessary.
  • A marker verification system will be implemented in January 2003.
